Get Adobe Flash player Anneke has been involved in clothing design since 1985. After she received her undergraduate degree from Dalhousie University, Anneke moved to Toronto where she acquired further design training at Ryerson and George Brown. Anneke's interest in tailoring led her to open her first retail studio on St. Joseph Street, featuring men's & women's clothing. Anneke owned successful tailoring and clothing design businesses in Toronto and Halifax, designing under the Anneke Jans label. Anneke has experience in most aspects of fashion design, including retail, wholesale, custom and couture. During this period her clothing appeared in stores, on the fashion runway, in magazines and newspapers, on the stage, in classrooms and in television and film. In 2003, Anneke put her clothing design business, and her design teaching on hold to pursue her graduate studies at NSCAD University, Halifax. While at NSCAD, her focus moved away from clothing in the context of fashion, towards the sculptural aspects of textile and the relationship of cloth to the body, and cloth on body. Her thesis focused on the fibre layer that exists next to the flesh, engaging in a material, historical, and metaphorical exploration of cloth and clothing. Anneke works and lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia with her husband and two daughters.
